R\u00c9SUM\u00c9<\/h2>\n

Au S\u00e9n\u00e9gal, l\u2019agriculture est majoritairement pluviale et fortement d\u00e9pendante de services m\u00e9t\u00e9orologiques. Ainsi, toute information sur la pluviom\u00e9trie \u00e0 venir est importante pour les cultivateurs afin d\u2019anticiper l\u2019arriv\u00e9e tardive des pluies ou d\u2019ann\u00e9es particuli\u00e8rement s\u00e8ches. En pays\u00a0sereer<\/em>\u00a0(r\u00e9gion de Fatick), les\u00a0Saltigui<\/em>\u00a0(devins) participent \u00e0 ce travail d\u2019anticipation de la saison des pluies \u00e0 travers des pratiques de divination qui permettent d\u2019envisager le d\u00e9roulement de l\u2019hivernage \u00e0 venir. Par le canal des c\u00e9r\u00e9monies r\u00e9alis\u00e9es annuellement, les\u00a0Xooy<\/em>, les\u00a0Saltigui<\/em>\u00a0partagent le savoir qu\u2019ils ont obtenu \u00e0 la fois des esprits et des connaissances qu\u2019ils ont eux-m\u00eames du territoire et de ses signes. Par une analyse des discours et des pratiques des\u00a0Saltigui<\/em>, cet article\u00a0<\/em>aborde le travail d\u2019assemblage sur lequel repose la \u00ab\u00a0pr\u00e9diction m\u00e9t\u00e9orologique\u00a0\u00bb des\u00a0Saltigui<\/em>. Nous montrons le r\u00f4le d\u2019interm\u00e9diaire qu\u2019assure le\u00a0Saltigui<\/em>, entre le monde des esprits, le monde des vivants et la nature. Les\u00a0Saltigui<\/em>, \u00e0 travers les\u00a0Xooy<\/em>, v\u00e9hiculent et partagent un savoir local, li\u00e9 \u00e0 un territoire sp\u00e9cifique et issu d\u2019un ensemble de croyances et de pratiques ancr\u00e9es dans l\u2019histoire. Ce cas particulier permet d\u2019envisager les \u00ab\u00a0savoirs \u00e9cologiques locaux\u00a0\u00bb dans une forme de totalit\u00e9 situ\u00e9e. D\u2019une part, la pluie est positionn\u00e9e comme une facette de la vie collective, et non comme un domaine de connaissance isol\u00e9 du reste des pr\u00e9occupations villageoises. D\u2019autre part, au-del\u00e0 de l\u2019annonce de l\u2019hivernage, les\u00a0Saltigui<\/em> font aussi un travail de purification de l\u2019espace physique et symbolique avant l\u2019hivernage, puis des propositions pour conjurer les \u00e9ventuelles pr\u00e9dictions n\u00e9fastes. L\u2019acte de pr\u00e9diction doit donc \u00eatre compris comme un \u00e9l\u00e9ment d\u2019un ensemble plus large dans lequel il prend son sens. Ces observations invitent \u00e0 consid\u00e9rer avec prudence le projet contemporain qui consiste \u00e0 vouloir int\u00e9grer des \u00ab savoirs locaux \u00bb aux formes modernes de pr\u00e9visions scientifiques.<\/p>\n

ABSTRACT<\/h2>\n

Agriculture in Senegal is predominantly rain-fed and depends heavily on meteorological services. Any information on future rainfall is therefore important for farmers to anticipate the delayed arrivals of rains or particularly dry years. In Sereer countryside (Fatick region), the\u00a0<\/span>Saltigui<\/span><\/em>\u00a0(diviners) take part in this work of anticipating the rainy season through divination practices that enable them to predict the course of the coming rainy season. Through their annual ceremonies named\u00a0<\/span>Xooy,\u00a0<\/span><\/em>the\u00a0<\/span>Saltigui<\/span><\/em>\u00a0share the knowledge they have obtained both from the spirits and from their own knowledge of the land and its signs. Through an analysis of the\u00a0<\/span>Saltigui\u2019s\u00a0<\/span><\/em>discourse and practices, this article adresses the assembly work on which the\u00a0<\/span>Saltigui\u2019s<\/span><\/em>\u00a0\u2018meteorological prediction\u2019 is based. We demonstrate the\u00a0<\/span>Saltigui\u2019s role\u00a0<\/span><\/em>as intermediary between the spirit world, the living world and the nature. Through their\u00a0<\/span>Xooy<\/span><\/em>, the Saltigui convey and share a local knowledge, linked to a specific territory and stemming from a set of beliefs and practices rooted in history. This particular case allows us to consider \u2018local ecological knowledge\u2019 as a form of situated totality. On one hand, rain is perceived positioned as a facet of collective life, and not as a field of knowledge isolated from the rest of the village\u2019s concerns. On the other hand, in addition to announcing the onset of the rainy season, the\u00a0<\/span>Saltigui<\/span><\/em>\u00a0also purify the physical and symbolic space prior to the rainy season, and then make proposals to ward off any harmful predictions. The predictive act must therefore be understood as part of a larger whole in which it takes on its full meaning.
